Wash and soak tuvar dal for 30 to 40 minutes
Drain the water and transfer tuvar dal to a pressure cooker.
Add turmeric, salt and 1 1/2 cups of water. Pressure cook for 4 to 5 whistles.
Once the steam escapes fully, open the pressure cooker. Whisk the dal well.
Add green chillies and asafoetida and bring the dal to a boil.
For the tempering, heat 1 tbsp oil in a tadka pan.
Add mustard seeds.
When the seeds start crackling, add curry leaves and dry red chillies.
Pour this tempering into the dal.
Dalitoy is ready to be served
