Wash and soak moong dal for 2 hours.
Chop the spring onions and keep aside.
Heat oil in a pan.
Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, chopped garlic and chopped green chillies. Saute for few seconds.
Add chopped spring onions. Saute on low heat till the onion turns soft.
Add chopped tomato and saute till the tomato turns mushy.
Add soaked moong dal and mix.
Add turmeric powder and half a cup of water. Mix well. Cover and cook for 8 to 10 minutes.
Add red chilli powder, cumin coriander powder and salt. Mix well.
Add spring onion greens and mix well. Cover and cook for 5 to 7 minutes.
Add garam masala and mix. Cook for few seconds.
Serve hot with chapatis.
