Take a cup of mixed dal ( mixture of tur dal, masoor dal,chana dal, moong dal and udad dal).
Wash and soak for minimum 1 hour.
After an hour, drain the water and transfer the soaked dal to a pressure cooker.
Add ½ tsp turmeric powder, salt and 2 cups of water. Close the lid and pressure cook for5 to 6 whistles.
Open the pressure cooker once it cools completely. Keep cooked dal aside.
Heat ghee in a pan. Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds.
When the seeds start crackling, add ginger garlic paste, chopped green chillies, dry red chillies, chopped onion, asafoetida and saute.
Saute till the onions turn translucent.
Add chopped tomato and saute till the tomato turns mushy.
Add cooked dal. Add water as required and mix well.
Add turmeric powder red chilli powder, coriander powder and mix.
Add salt as per taste.
Add kasoori methi and garam masala.
Cook for 2 minutes on low heat.
Serve Panchmel dal with steamed rice or jeera rice.
