This dish can be served on its own or can be paired with raita, salad, pickle and papad.

List of ingredients

Rice
Veggies & Herbs
: Tomatoes, Onion,  coriander leaves, mint leaves
Spices : shahjeera (caraway seeds), bay leaf, cardamaom. cloves, cinnamon, ginger garlic paste, green chillies, turmeric powder, red chilly powder, coriander powder and garam masala
Other ingredients : oil, salt

Step-wise instructions with pictures

Wash and soak rice for 15 to 20 minutes. Drain the water and keep aside.

Wash and chop tomatoes

Heat oil in a pressure cooker. Add shahjeera, cardamom, bay leaves, cloves and cinnamon.  

Next add chopped onion  and chopped green chillies.  Saute for a minute or so.

 Add ginger garlic paste and chopped tomatoes.

Once the tomatoes soften, add chopped coriander leaves, chopped mint leaves, turmeric powder, red chilly powder, coriander powder and garam masala  Mix well.

Add salt as per taste. Add soaked rice and mix. Now add water.

Close the pressure cooker and cook for 3 whistles.

 Open the cooker after the steam escapes completely. Serve tomato pulao with raita, papad and pickle.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups of basmati rice
  • 5 tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp caraway seeds (shahjeera)
  • 2 to 3 cardamom
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 4 cloves
  • 1 inch cinnamon
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 to 3 green chillies, cut lengthwise
  • 1 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1 cup chopped coriander leaves
  • ½ cup chopped mint leaves
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chilly powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • ½ tsp garam masala
  • salt to taste
  • 1 ¾ cup water

Instructions

  • Wash and soak rice for 15 to 20 minutes. Drain the water and keep aside.
  • Heat oil in a pressure cooker. Add shahjeera, cardamom, bay leaves,cloves and cinnamon.  
  • Next add chopped onion  and chopped green chillies.  Saute for a minute or so. 
  • Add ginger garlic paste and chopped tomatoes, mixing everything well, and cook on low heat for a few seconds allowing the flavours to blend.
  • Once the tomatoes soften, add chopped coriander leaves, chopped min tleaves, turmeric powder, red chilly powder, coriander powder and garam masala  Mix well.
  • Add salt as per taste.Add soaked rice and mix. Now add water.
  • Close the pressure cooker and cook for 3 whistles.
  • Open the cooker after the steam escapes completely.
  • Serve tomato pulao with raita, papad and pickle.
