For most non-vegetarians, prawns is one of  the favourite seafood and so is prawns pulao. This simple recipe of prawns pulao made with coriander, mint, onions and tomatoes is one of my favourite. Taste-wise, it is just out of the world and efforts-wise, you don’t have to do much. Just fry the onions, tomatoes, throw in the prawns, spices  and rice and cook till done.  So easy. Isn’t it? ??. So without wasting any time, lets get straight to the mouthwatering recipe of prawns pulao.

Ingredients

To Marinate prawns

200 grams prawns
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp red chilly powder
Salt as per taste

Other ingredients

¾ cup basmati rice
1 cup fresh coriander (dhaniya)
1 cup fresh mint (pudina)
4 cloves garlic
1 inch piece of ginger
2 tbsp oil
2 bay leaves (tej patta)
3 cloves (lavang)
½ inch piece of cinnamon stick (dalchini)
3 onions (chopped)
2 tomatoes (chopped)
1 tsp turmeric powder
2 tsp red chilly powder
1 tsp garam masala
1 tsp cumin-coriander powder
Salt as per taste

Method

  • Wash and devein the prawns properly.
  • Marinate the prawns with turmeric powder, chilly powder and salt.
  • Keep it aside for 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Soak rice in water for 20 minutes.
  • In the meanwhile, blend coriander, mint, ginger and garlic to a fine paste.
  • Heat 1 tsp oil in a pan.
  • Add the marinated prawns and saute for 5 to 8 minutes. Remove and keep it aside.
  • Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan.
  • Add the bay leaves, cloves, cinnamon, chopped onions and saute.
  • Let the onions cook on a slow flame till they turn golden brown.
  • Add the chopped tomatoes and allow it to become soft.
  • Add the coriander-mint paste and mix well.
  • Now, add the sautéed prawns, turmeric powder, red chilly powder, garam masala, cumin-coriander powder, salt and mix well.
  • Add soaked rice and 3 cups of water.
  • Cover cooked for 20 minutes on slow flame stirring occasionally.
  • The rice should be cooked and the water should be fully absorbed by the rice and other ingredients. 
  • Serve prawns pulao with Cucumber Mint Raita.
