Raw Banana Fry is a simple and delicious recipe made with raw bananas. Raw bananas are peeled and cut into long slices. These slices are marinated in a masala paste and then coated with rava, rice flour mixture and fried. Raw Banana Fry is often referred to as “vegetarian fish fry” or “mock fish fry” due to its similar texture as fried fish. The method of preparation is also similar to fish fry recipe.

Raw Banana Fry is a simple yet flavourful dish that can elevate a simple meal to another level.
Raw bananas have subtle flavour and starchy texture. When these raw bananas coated with the spicy masala paste and rava rice flour mixture are fried, they develop a crispy exterior and are soft from inside. They can be served as a snack or as a side dish with dal chawal, sambar rice, curd rice or any veg curry with rice. It gets made quickly and is a perfect option for a weekday meal.

Raw Bananas : Raw Bananas are of course the star ingredient of this dish. Select firm, fresh raw bananas.
Masala Paste : The masala paste is made by mixing red chilli powder, turmeric powder, ginger garlic paste, salt and lemon juice.
Outer coating : Rava (semolina), rice flour and salt are mixed to make the outer coating. Rava and rice flour mixed together gives a crispy outer layer to the bananas.

Take 2 firm, raw bananas.
Peel the bananas
Slice into slightly thick pieces, lengthwise.
Keep the banana slices immersed in water until you prepare the masala paste.
In a plate, add ginger garlic paste, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, salt and lemon juice. Add few drops of water and mix well.
Coat the banana slices with the masala paste.
For the outer coating, mix rava, rice flour and salt. Mix well. Coat each banana slice with the rava mixture.
Heat oil for frying. Place the banana slices in the pan.
Fry them on both sides until they turn golden and crisp. Serve hot.

You can use any oil for frying raw bananas. I have used rice bran oil.

You can shallow fry or deep fry the bananas. Ensure that you are adding the banana slices in small batches into the oil. Avoid overcrowding the pan.
Can we use garam masala and amchoor powder to make the masala paste?
Yes you can use the spices as per your taste preference.

Ingredients
- 2 raw bananas
- 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tbsp red chilli powder
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- salt to taste
- 2 tsp rava
- 2 tsp rice flour
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Peel the raw bananas.
- Cut them lengthwise into slightly thick slices. Do not make very thin slices.
- Keep them immersed in water till the time you prepare the masala paste.
- To make the masala paste, in a plate, add ginger garlic paste, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, salt and lemon juice. Mix well.
- Coat the banana slices with this masala paste.
- To prepare the outer coating, in a plate, add rava, rice flour and salt. Mix well.
- Coat each slice of banana with this rava rice flour mixture.
- Heat oil in a pan.
- Place the banana slices in the pan.
- Fry on both sides until they turn golden and crispy.
