Mangalorean Mango Curry or Ambe Upkari is a traditional mango delicacy  from the Konkani cuisine. During summer, when mangoes are available in plenty, this is a common preparation in many Konkani households. This sweet, spicy, tangy curry goes well with rice or you can serve it as a side dish with a South Indian meal.  You can use any small variety of mangoes for this dish. As mangoes are abundantly available now, do try this recipe.

Mangalorean Mango Curry or Ambe Upkari is a traditional Konkani dish from coastal Karnataka. It is made with ripe mangoes and spices. The recipe is quite simple and is made with few basic ingredients. The main ingredient is the ripe mangoes which is peeled and cooked in its own juices alongwith spices.
List of ingredients
Ripe mangoes
Mango puree
green chillies
jaggery
cornflour
salt
For seasoning : oil, udsd dal, mustard seeds, curry leaves and dry red chillies
Step-wise recipe with pictures
Wash the mangoes and peel them.
In a mixing bowl, place the mango peels and add a glass of water. Squeeze the mango peels with your hands and extract juice out of the mango peels as much as possible. Â Discard the peels.
Heat a pan. Add the skinned mangoes, the mango juice extracted from the peels and mix.
Add green chillies, jaggery, salt and mix.
Now, stir in the mango puree. Cook covered for 5 minutes. In the meantime, in a bowl, add the cornflour , little water and mix well. Add the cornflour mixture to the mango curry. Cook covered for 7 to 10 minutes. Keep this aside.
For the seasoning, heat 1 tbsp oil in a small pan. Add udad dal, mustard seeds, curry leaves and dried red chillies. When they start spluttering, pour the seasoning into the mango curry. Serve the mango curry with steaming hot rice.

- 5 to 7 small, ripe mangoes
- 4 green chillies
- 3 tbsp of jaggery pieces
- Salt as per taste
- ½ cup Mango puree (optional)
- 2 tbsp cornflour

- 1 tsp udad dal
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 10 to 12 Curry leaves
- 2 dry red chillies
Instructions
