How to make white chutney

Coconut chutney (white chutney) is a perfect accompaniment with idlis, dosas, vadas etc. This South Indian style chutney is very easy to make and needs few ingredients. Here’s the recipe for white coconut chutney:

Ingredients

1 cup fresh grated coconut (nariyal)
2 Green chillies (hari mirch)
2 Garlic flakes (lehsun)
1 tsp roasted split gram (roasted chana dal/ daria)
a small piece of Tamarind (imli)
Salt as per taste

For tempering

1 tbsp Oil
1 tsp split black gram ( Udad dal)
1 tsp Mustard seeds (Rai)
7 to 8 Curry leaves (kadi patta)

Coconut Chutney

Method :

  • Grind together coconut, green chillies, garlic flakes, roasted chana dal, tamarind and salt to a coarse paste.
  • Prepare the tempering by heating oil, udad dal, mustard seeds and curry leaves.
  • Pour  the tempering to the ground paste.
  • White Coconut  chutney is ready to be served.

Note:

You can also add a small piece of ginger while grinding all the ingredients, though I do not use ginger in this chutney.
