Cooling Raita

Raita is a curd based condiment which is an important part of  Indian cuisine. Some of the spicy Indian dishes would be incomplete without a serving of raita. For eg. One cannot imagine biryanis or parathas without raitas. Cucumber Mint Raita is a wonderful combination of cucumber, curds  and mint leaves. It is extremely cooling by nature and is a perfect accompaniment to spicy dishes.

1 cup curds (dahi)
1 large  cucumber, peeled and grated (kakdi / kheera)
1 tsp roasted cumin powder (jeera powder)
1/2 cup chopped mint leaves (pudina)
salt as per taste


  • In a mixing bowl, add the curds and whisk till it becomes smooth.
  • Add salt, roasted cumin powder and mix.
  • Add  grated cucumber, chopped mint leaves and mix.
  • Refrigerate and serve chilled Cucumber mint raita with prawns pulao or masale bhaat.
