Mixed Dal Palak Cheela  – a nutritious pancake made with a blend of lentils, spinach and spices.

Cheela is a common breakfast dish in many Indian households, especially North India. Cheelas are versatile enough to be made with variety of ingredients. Some of the cheela recipes on this blog are Moong dal cheela, Besan Cheela , Oats Besan Cheela  and Moong Palak Cheela.  Mixed dal palak cheela is a nutritious twist to the regular cheela. Combination of various dals and spinach makes this dish nutritious and tasty.

About Mixed Dal Palak Cheela

Mixed Dal Palak Cheela is made with chana dal, whole moong, masoor dal, spinach and spices. It can be made with any lentils of your choice allowing for customisation based on personal preference. Lentils are a rich source of protein, dietary fibre and spinach is rich in iron and calcium. Hence, mixed dal palak cheela makes for a super healthy breakfast dish.  It is a filling dish due to its fibre content and keeps you full for a long time.  Mixed Dal Palak Cheela pairs well with green chutney and tomato sauce . It makes for a good breakfast dish as well as a light meal.

List of ingredients to make Mixed Dal Palak Cheela

Lentils : Chana Dal, Whole Moong and Masoor Dal
Vegetables : Spinach, onion, tomato
Spices and herbs : Carom seeds, ginger green chillies paste, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander leaves
Other ingredients : salt, eno fruit salt and oil

Step-wise instructions with pictures

In a mixing bowl, add chana dal, whole moong and masoor dal.

Add water and rinse well. Soak the dals overnight or for 6 to 7 hours.

 After 7 hours, drain the water and transfer soaked lentils to a mixer jar. Add some water and blend to a smooth paste.

Transfer the ground dal to a mixing bowl.

 Add chopped spinach, chopped coriander leaves, chopped onion, chopped tomato, carom seeds, ginger green chillies paste, turmeric powder, red chilly powder and salt. Mix well.

 Add water if required to adjust the consistency of the batter. Add eno fruit salt and mix well.

 Heat a pan. Drop ladleful batter into the pan and spread .

Cover the pan and cook on low heat.

 Flip the cheela and cook on other side. Repeat the same with the remaining batter.

 Serve Mixed dal palak cheela with green chutney and tomato sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup chana dal
  • 1/3 cup whole moong
  • 1/3 cup masoor dal
  • 1 cup chopped spinach (palak)
  • ½ cup chopped coriander leaves
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tomato, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp carom seeds (ajwain)
  • ½ tsp ginger green chillies paste
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • ½ tsp red chilly powder
  • salt to taste
  • ½ tsp eno fruit salt (optional)
  • Oil as required for cooking the cheelas

Instructions
