Peanut Butter

Peanut Butter – a creamy nutty spread made with roasted peanuts enjoyed for its rich flavour and nutrition.

About Peanut Butter

Peanut Butter is a creamy delight made using the humble peanuts. Made solely from peanuts, it is a rich source of plant based protein and healthy fats. Thus, it is hailed as a nutritious staple in the plant-based diet. It serves as a convenient alternative to dairy based spreads such as butter and cheese.

It can be enjoyed in countless ways. It can be spread on toast, rotis, blended into smoothies and shakes, used as a dip for fruits or vegetables. It can be used to make cookies, breads, brownies or you can just  eat a spoonful straight from the jar.

Making peanut butter at home is extremely easy and economical.  Store-bought peanut butter may contain preservatives and refined additives such as sugar or oil. Making it at home allows us to have complete control over the ingredients used. Also, it can be customised to personal taste preferences. I have made the peanut butter with only two ingredients, i.e. peanuts and salt.  In case you want to make it sweet, you can add dates while blending the peanuts. It is better to avoid sugar and keep it wholesome.

I have not peeled the peanuts. Keeping the peanuts unpeeled adds to the nutritional value of the peanut butter as it retains the fiber content. However, you are free to peel the peanuts before blending them.

List of Ingredients to make Peanut Butter

Peanuts and salt

Step-wise recipe to make Peanut Butter

Take 2 cups of raw peanuts.

Heat a pan and add raw peanuts.

Dry roast the peanuts on low heat until the peanuts turn crunchy and aromatic.

Once done, turn off the heat. Take the pan off the heat and allow the peanuts to cool completely.

Once cooled transfer the peanuts to a blender jar. I have used the small jar for 2 cups of peanuts. Blend for few seconds.

Initially the peanuts will turn into a coarse powder. You will need to stop the blender after few seconds to give it a chance to cool down and also to scrape the sides of the jar.

Blend again for few seconds. Add a pinch of salt and blend again for few seconds until you get creamy peanut butter.

Store the peanut butter in an air-tight  glass container. It can be stored at room temperature upto 3 months.

Note:  I have not peeled the peanuts thus retaining the fibre content and making it wholesome.
