Maharashtrian festive thali

Maharashtrian festive thali – an elaborate meal consisting of vegetables, dal, puris, rice, sweets, salad and pickle.

Today, I wish to share with you my Maharashtrian festive thali. The thali consists of batatyachi bhaji, puri, ambat varan, masale bhat, aamras, koshimbir, kelyache kaap, shrikhand and pickle. The recipe for each dish is given below. Click on the name of the dish to read the recipe:

How to make instant lemon pickle

Kelyache Kaap (Raw banana fritters)

Recipe

Ingredients

1 raw banana (kachcha kela)
1 tsp red chilly powder (laal mirch)
1/2 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
1 tsp lemon juice (nimbu ka ras)
salt as per taste (namak)

For the coating

1 tbsp rice flour (chawal ka aata)
1 tsp semolina (rava)

Oil for frying

Method

Peel the banana and cut into slices, lengthwise. Marinate the banana slices with turmeric powder, red chilly powder, lemon juice and salt. Keep aside for 10 minutes.  Mix rice flour and rava. Dip the marinated banana slices in rice flour, rava mixture. Deep fry the banana slices. Serve hot.

Koshimbir (Raita)

Recipe

Ingredients

1 cup chopped cucumber (kheera)
1/2 cup chopped tomatoes (tamatar)
1/2 cup grated carrots (gajar)
1 green chilly, finely chopped (hari mirch)
1 cup curds (dahi)
salt as per taste (namak)

Method

In a mixing bowl, add chopped cucumber, chopped tomatoes, grated carrots, chopped green chilly, salt, curds and mix well. Refrigerate and serve chilled.
