About Methi Dink Laddoos
Methi Dink Laddoos are a wholesome and nutritious Indian sweet traditionally made to provide warmth and energy during the colder months. These laddoos combine the goodness of fenugreek seeds (methi), edible gum (dink), wheat flour, and a blend of dry fruits, sweetened with jaggery and flavored with ginger powder. The methi seeds, known for their health benefits are carefully roasted , powdered and soaked in ghee to mellow their bitterness. The edible gum is fried in ghee and powdered. It adds a crunchy texture to the laddoos and boosts immunity. This age-old recipe is a powerhouse of nutrients, often enjoyed as a postpartum snack or a winter delicacy.
List of ingredients to make Methi Dink Laddoos
Fenugreek (Methi) seeds – Methi seeds are packed with health benefits and provides warmth to the body during winter.
Edible gum – has immune boosting properties
Dry Dates Powder – rich source of iron and calcium
Dry fruits : almonds, cashew nuts, walnuts, pistachios and raisins – dry fruits provide a crunch and are rich in protein, healthy fats, and vitamins
Wholewheat flour – adds a smooth texture to the laddoos and provides essential carbohydrates for energy.
Dry coconut – lends a rich, nutty flavor, adds healthy fats, and boosts energy.
Jaggery – acts as sweetener.
Poppy seeds : adds nutty flavour to the laddoos
Ginger Powder – adds warmth and helps in digestion.
Ghee : Used for roasting, binding and provides healthy fats.
Step-wise procedure to make Methi Dink Laddoos
Prepare the Methi Powder
- Dry roast methi seeds in a pan until aromatic. Cool completely, blend into a fine powder, and mix with 1 tbsp ghee. Let it rest for 5–6 hours. Soaking methi powder in ghee helps to reduce its bitterness, making the flavor milder and more balanced.
Roast Kharik Powder and Coconut
- Roast kharik powder on low heat with ½ tbsp ghee for a few seconds.
- Roast grated dry coconut with ½ tbsp ghee until golden and aromatic. Set aside.
Roast Dry Fruits and Poppy Seeds
- Heat 1 tbsp ghee in a pan. Roast almonds, cashews, walnuts, pistachios, and raisins individually on low heat, setting each aside.
- Roast poppy seeds for a few seconds and set aside.
Fry Edible Gum
- Heat 2 tbsp ghee in a pan. Fry edible gum until it puffs up. Cool and crush into a coarse powder.
Roast Whole Wheat Flour
- Roast whole wheat flour on low heat with ½ cup ghee. Add ghee gradually as required and roast the flour until it turns aromatic.
Combine Ingredients
- Blend the roasted dry fruits into a coarse powder.
- In a large bowl, combine dry fruit powder, crushed edible gum, roasted kharik powder, roasted coconut, poppy seeds, dry ginger powder, and roasted wheat flour.
Prepare the Jaggery Mixture
- Heat jaggery on low flame until melted. Add 2 tbsp ghee and the soaked methi powder. Mix well.
Mix and Shape the Laddoos
- Pour the jaggery-methi mixture into the combined ingredients. Mix thoroughly while warm.
- Shape into laddoos and store in an airtight container.

Ingredients
- ½ cup fenugreek seeds (methi seeds)
- ½ cup edible gum (dink/gond)
- 2 cups of Dry dates powder (kharik powder)
- 2 cups grated dry coconut (sookha kopra)
- ½ cup almonds (badam)
- ½ cup Cashew nuts(kaju)
- ½ cup walnuts (akhrot)
- ¼ cup pistachios
- ¼ cup raisins (kishmish)
- 2 cups jaggery (gud)
- 2 cups wholewheat flour (gehu ka aata)
- 2 tbsp poppy seeds(khuskhus )
- 2 tbsp dry ginger powder (soonth powder)
- ½ cup + 7 tbsp clarified butter(ghee )
Instructions
- Heat a pan. Add methi seeds and dry roast till it turns aromatic. Allow this to cool completely. Blend to a fine powder. Transfer the methi powder to a bowl. Add 2 tbsp ghee to methi powder. Mix well and keep aside for 5 to 6 hours.
- Heat a pan. Add kharik powder and roast on low heat for few seconds adding ½ tbsp ghee
- Heat a pan. Add grated coconut and roast adding ½ tbsp ghee till it changes its colour and starts giving out a nice aroma. Keep aside.
- Heat 1 tbsp ghee in a pan. Add almonds and roast on low heat. Remove and keep aside.
- Next add cashews and roast on low heat. Remove and keep aside.
- Next add walnuts and roast. Keep aside.
- Add pistachios and roast for few seconds. Keep aside.
- Add raisins and roast just for a second or two. Keep aside.
- Add poppy seeds and roast for few seconds. Keep aside.
- Add 2 tbsp ghee. When the ghee melts and heats up, add edible gum and fry till it puffs up. Remove and allow it to cool. Crush them to a coarse powder. Keep aside.
- Add whole wheat flour and roast on low heat for few seconds,and then add ghee gradually while roasting. (used ½ cup ghee for roasting the flour).
- Blend roasted dry fruits to a coarse powder and transfer to a large mixing bowl or a large plate.
- To this add crushed edible gum, roasted kharik powder, roasted coconut, roasted poppy seeds, dry ginger powder and roasted whole wheat flour. Mix everything well.
- Now heat a pan. Add jaggery and allow it to melt on low flame. Add 1 tbsp ghee to this and then add the soaked methi powder. Mix well.
- Pour this jaggery-methi mixture into the combined ingredients. Mix well using a spatula.While it is still warm, shape into laddoos. Store the laddoos in an airtight container.
