Lemongrass Cooler – a refreshing drink for hot summers.

Its summer time and the temperature has started soaring high. To beat the summer heat, here’s an excellent coolant made with lemongrass and lemon juice.  Lemongrass is a herb which is known for its medicinal properties. It can be made into tea and is known to boost immunity. It has a distinct lemony fragrance and taste.  Lemongrass cooler makes for a great coolant for hot summers.

What is Lemongrass

Lemongrass is a thick, grass like herb which is commonly used to make herbal tea.  It is known for its medicinal properties. It has a lemony scent and is used for flavoring in the food industry.  Due to its strong lemony scent, it is also used as a fragrance in soaps and deodorants.  It is a common ingredient in Thai curries.

Lemongrass can be easily grown in pots. I have a lemongrass plant growing in my kitchen garden. Hence, I rarely need to buy lemongrass. Fresh lemongrass is easily available with most vegetable vendors in Mumbai. Lemongrass is also available in dried or powdered form.  To make this summer cooler, fresh lemongrass is preferred as it imparts fresh flavour and bright colour to the drink.

Note:   I have been receiving a lot of queries on this post regarding the leaves used. These leaves are mistaken for for pandan leaves. Please note that these are not pandan leaves. Though they look somewhat like pandan leaves, they are lemongrass and not pandan leaves. For the sake of my readers, here are the pictures of both lemongrass and pandan plant from my kitchen garden.
