Heart idlis

Heart Idlis – mini idlis with a heart in the centre.

As a South Indian, Idlis and dosas are my preferred  breakfast dishes. I enjoy experimenting with them which has resulted in a diverse array of idlis and dosas on this blog. For variety of idli recipes, click here and for dosas, click here. Today, on the occasion of Valentines’s Day, I wanted to prepare idlis keeping Valentine’s day theme in mind. So, I decided to make mini idlis in  two colours – white and red.  For red idlis, I incorporated beetroot juice into the batter. After steaming the idlis, I used a heart shaped cutter to punch each idli and placed red hearts within  white idlis and white hearts at the centre of red ones.

About Heart Idlis

These mini idlis are prepared in two distinct colours – white and red. The white idlis are made using the traditional idli batter, while for the red idlis, I have infused beetroot juice into the same batter. After steaming the idlis, I have delicately carved each idli into a heart shape in the centre, then placed a red heart within the white idlis and a white heart within the red ones.

These pretty idlis are an ideal choice for a Valentine’s Day breakfast. The heart shaped designs add a special touch to the meal.

These idlis also serve as an excellent option for packing in kids tiffin boxes. Their vibrant colour and appearance are sure to capture children’s attention and make mealtime more enjoyable. Additionally, with nutritious ingredients like beetroot juice, these idlis offer a healthy option for kids lunch boxes.
